“Football Community Development Officer” Leitrim County Development Board and FAI

The FAI and Leitrim County Council came together to put in place a Community Development Officer in 2008 to provide more opprtunities to the people to take part in sport within their own area. Damon Kearney is the current DO having taken over from Declan Boyle in Feburary 2009.

Establish LCC/FAI Community Soccer Programme

•Partnership began in January 2008

•Increase involvement of socially excluded groups in soccer

•Increase participation - schools, youth groups, community projects, soccer clubs

What is a Community Development Officer’s Role?

•The Role: Central to a CDO’s role is ensuring Leitrim County Council and the Football Association of Ireland achieve its core objectives of this programme by:

•Ensuring delivery of integrated football and sports development programmes throughout the community

•Developing partnership and co-ordination between the relevant local statutory and voluntary bodies, in particular Leitrim County Council, and maximizing their involvement in the development of football in the county

•The promotion of Social Inclusion through Football Deliver active soccer development to key target communities
