Goal to Enjoy was a programme designed by Leitrim County Council and the FAI as a way of both helping young people with a disability to see how they can enjoy football and also a way of helping parents/carers/siblings etc
Currently Leitrim County Council and the FAI run a community soccer programme in Leitrim. One of the aims of this community soccer programme is to promote Sport and Physical Activity among Adults & Children with Disabilities in Leitrim and to raise the awareness on the benefits of their participation. Leitrim County Council and the FAI aims to work with key stakeholders including local community, voluntary and statutory organizations to help create an environment where everyone is welcomed and valued in sport, irrespective of ability.
“Goal to Enjoy..Sports for All Summer programme” will take place during the summer break. This will be facilitated by Damon Kearney Soccer Community Development Officer. One of the initiatives planned for this summer is a day Camp for children with special needs during the Halloween break.
The programme will be run in two venues North and South of the county starting in St. Claire’s Comp School Sports Hall from 10am to 12pm in Manorhamilton and Mayflower Centre, Drumshanbo from 1pm to 3pm in Drumshanbo. Starting on Saturday, November 2nd there will be a day sports camp for children with different additional needs e.g. children with learning disability or children with physical or sensory disability. On arrival on the day, children will be suitable into appropriate groups. Any siblings or family are encouraged to also attend in order to make the child more comfortable and to learn ways of helping your child participate in sport following the camp. We will have a FAI Soccer Kit to give to any participants who take part in the programme but places are LIMITED to please pre-book to avoid disappointment.
It is hoped that such an exciting initiative as “Goal to Enjoy…..Sports for All” will be ongoing and it is anticipated that there will be a high demand for the camp for children. For further information please contact Damon Kearney on 087-7728173.
