Fines increased to 100 Euro for Unlicenced Dogs

Leitrim County Council have announced that the On-The-Spot fine for breaches of Dog Control legislation has increased to €100. Some of the offences include keeping a dog without a licence, permitting a dog which is not under effective control to be in a public place and permitting a dog of a restricted breed to be in a public place without a lead and muzzle.

Leitrim Community Wardens carry out house-to-house checks on a regular basis and On-The-Spot fines of €100 will be issued for all above offences. Further checks will be carried out in the near future.

Dog Owners are reminded that if they keep a dog they MUST have a current licence. Dog Licences are available at all Post Offices. You can avoid queuing and renew your licence quickly and easily using the Leitrim County Council on-line service.

It is now possible to purchase a “Lifetime of Dog Licence” at a cost of €140. This licence gives best value when purchased for puppies. There is no further requirement to purchase a licence for that puppy for its entire lifetime. Your dog must be micro-chipped in order to purchase a Licence for Life.
