Cruinniú na nÓg celebrating creativity in young people

Save the date – June 23rd – Cruinniú na nÓg celebrating creativity in young people

Do you have an idea for an event for children and young people celebrating culture and creativity that you would like to see happen?

Saturday June 23rd was established this year under the Creative Ireland programme as a national day of creativity for children and young people. The model is similar to Culture Night but in contrast to Culture Night, events can be held during the day, making them much more accessible to children and young people. While the focus of most events will be on Saturday 23rd itself, events can also happen on the day before for those groups, especially schools, that meet during the week.

Cruinniú na nÓg will be an annual all-island public event that celebrates creativity in young people. Events can take all shapes and sizes from visual arts, performance to workshops on heritage, adventures, or explorations of culture, food or fashion. The emphasis though should be on ‘doing’, ‘making’, ‘creating’. All events should be focussed on children and young people (up to 18), and we particularly welcome applications that gives access to groups of children who haven’t had such opportunities before.

Any venue, organisation or community group can organise an event but as with Culture Night all events supported through this programme must be freely accessible to the public and free of charge

If you are interested in organising an event we would like to hear from you. Leitrim County Council can provide financial support towards the costs of running your event – particularly the costs of hiring artists or other culture/creativity sector practitioners and the costs of materials. Grants will typically be in the region of €250 to €1,000. While there is no fixed number of awards, there will generally be a larger number of lesser value awards and a small number of higher value ones. Depending on the number of applications received, it may not be possible to fund all applicants and in that case available funding will be allocated to those which best meet the objectives of Leitrim County Council’s Culture and Creativity Strategy.
